Green-lipped mussel powder is a product from particularly sustainable sources made from the ground flesh of the green-lipped mussel (Perna canaliculus). It only occurs in New Zealand. In addition to Omega-3 fatty acids, green-lipped mussel powder also contains amino sugar compounds which also occur in the joints, cartilage and connective tissue.
The mussels are farmed in New Zealand on long-lines in the sea. As the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) also reports, the mussel cultivation takes place in very good ecological conditions which do not affect the marine environment. No fertilisers, herbicides or pesticides are used. The combination of substances in mussel powder mean that it is administered to people and animals to support healthy joints and to treat joint complaints.
