• Chilean Hazelnut Oil

Chilean Hazelnut Oil

Characteristic properties

  • Has an extraordinary fatty acid spectrum, primarily consisting of oleic acid (C18:1), linoleic acid (C18:2) and eicosanoic acid (C20:1); it is also high in skin-related palmitic acid (C16:1)
  • Extremely resistant to oxidation thanks to its high alpha-tocotrienol content

Areas of application

Cosmetics

  • Well-tolerated base oil, especially for sensitive, irritated and mature skin. Is absorbed well by the skin because its fatty acid structure is similar to the composition of lipids in the skin
  • Because it is high in palmitic acid, the oil has excellent regenerative properties; oleic acid helps the active ingredients in cosmetics penetrate deep into the skin
  • Good in combination with oils rich in linoleic acid such as Evening Primrose Oil and Hemp Oil
  • Used in protective and regenerative creams, soaps and shampoos

Background

Chilean Hazelnut Oil (Gevuina avellana Molina) is obtained by pressing the edible fruits of the hazelnut bush. The fruits are only pressed mechanically, after which the oil is filtered. The Chilean hazelnut grows in Chile and New Zealand.
